No, he's not. He's biracial - and there's nothing wrong with that. It's fine if someone wants to mostly 'identify' with one of their heritages over the other, but the fact remains that most people just see Derek Jeter as a white man anyway (and treat him as such). It's uncomfortable to admit, but how other people treat you actually has a significant effect on your racial identity.

White people are typically not accepting of black/white mixed people unless that person looks white - which Derek Jeter does. If he was darker or had more 'black' features, there's no way in hell white people would claim him let alone let him identify as white. In fact, you had to write this piece because there are so many people that don't see Derek Jeter as black.

A black person is someone that has two black parents. Being raised by one black parent is a vastly different experience, especially when gender is thrown into the mix. It's fine if Derek Jeter, me (as I have 1 black parent), or other mixed people want to principally identify with one of their 'races', but we should be aware that our lives are still completely different from our mono-racial counterparts despite the similarities.
